Notice: A school tuition organization cannot award, restrict or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of a donor recommendation. A taxpayer may not claim a tax credit if the taxpayer agrees to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit either taxpayer's own dependent.

Corporate Tax Credit Benefits to Businesses

Financial

  • By making a charitable donation to a nonprofit (STOs are 501 (c)(3) organizations), that gives us the ability to publicize your company’s generous contribution in support of Arizona’s children. Ways that STAY can publicize your contribution include (at no cost to you/per your preference):
    • Be featured on our website where hundreds of families apply for scholarships each year.
    • Be featured on our STAY donor banner that goes to each school to be displayed prominently at events and/or on social media.
    • Be included on our billboards that read “Thank you for your commitment to community and education” as well as our own Social Media channels.
    • Have your logo provided to every student/family as a contributor to their child’s education.
    • Have your logo provided to every school as a contributor to their students’ scholarships.
    • Receive a photo with your donation and yourself/staff/STAY to be featured prominently on your own website or social media.
  • Whether your contribution is $5000 or more, STAY will help elevate your reputation in the community as having a commitment to both Yuma and education.
  • Your company will receive a dollar-for-dollar non-refundable Arizona tax credit. Any unused portion can be carried forward for up to 5 years.

 Philanthropic

  • You help Yuma’s disadvantaged children move out of unsuccessful public schools and into the school that best meets their unique needs.
  • You help Yuma’s displaced children who are in Arizona’s foster care program to enroll in the private school best suited to help them.
  • You help children in Yuma with a variety of learning disabilities find the help they need to not only function to their fullest capacity, but to blossom to their highest potential.
  • You give families hope.

Community at Large

  • You will lead by example in providing the children of Arizona school choice opportunities.
  • You get to be a local hero. The community will begin associating your business with having a commitment to Yuma students and the future success of our city.

Corporate Tax Credit Procedure

The state approves corporate requests on a first come first served basis. The cap for July 1, 2023, thru June 30, 2024, is $158,476,605. If you're interested, please contact us with your information by June 24th, 2023. To make a donation, please follow the steps provided below.

  1. Contact STAY with the following information:
    1.1 Name of the corporation requesting to make the donation.
    1.2 Amount the corporation wishes to donate.
    1.3 Corporate mailing address.
    1.4 Corporate federal tax ID.
    1.5 C Corporation or S Corporation?
    1.6 Name and EIN of parent S Corporation if contributing company is a qualified subchapter S subsidiary.
    1.7 Does the corporation pay insurance premium tax? If so, what is the NAIC Number?
    1.8 Calendar year or fiscal year? If fiscal year, when does it begin and end?
  2. STAY will complete a corporate donation application and submit it to the Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR).
  3. ADOR has 20 days to approve the contribution and notify STAY.
  4. STAY will notify the corporation if it is approved by ADOR, and then the corporation has 20 days to fund the contribution. After 20 days, the state approval expires and the corporation must start the process over again.
  5. You will receive a receipt to be used in lieu of the payment of Arizona income tax.

Donations are not limited, only the tax credit is limited. Corporate donations made to STAY would be treated the same as a donation to any other 501(c)3 charitable organization.

 

Programs

1. Low-Income Corporate Tax Credit 
  • Eligibility is limited
2. The student must meet one of the following criteria: 
  • Dependent of an active duty member of the US Armed Forces who is stationed in AZ pursuant to military orders. 
    - or -
  • Enrolls in a qualified private school Kindergarten program. 
    - or -
  • Attended a public school for 90 days of the prior school year or one full semester and then transferred from the public school to a qualified private school. Those students who transfer to a qualified school after the first full semester are eligible to be considered for a scholarship in that same academic year.
    - or -
  • Received a scholarship from a Corporate Low-Income program - OR - an Original Individual program - OR - a Switcher Individual program, issued by an Arizona STO, and had uninterrupted continual enrollment in a qualified private school. 
- AND - 

3. The family must meet the following income guidelines based on household size and income. 
  • Federal Low Income Guidelines for 2022-2023 (185% of the reduced price meals guidelines)
